UNECE-SDA BOCCONI EVENT - Accelerating action for the sustainable and circular garment and footwear industry of the future - 21-22-23 September 2021

The event, 'Accelerating action for the sustainable and circular garment and footwear industry of the future' is the culmination of several years of work with hundreds of experts to improve sustainability in the garment and footwear sector. Organised by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the Monitor for Circular Fashion, Sustainability Lab of SDA Bocconi School of Management, the event will coincide with the Milan Fashion Week. Over the three days, industry stakeholders will gather to share findings and take part in practical trainings on approaches and standards for improved transparency and traceability that can drive progress towards circular economic models.

A transition to circular economic models is key to improved sustainability in the garment and footwear sector - a shift that can be realised with verifiable production data, delivered through improved supply chain traceability and transparency.

This three-day training workshop is the first in a series of events that aim to provide industry stakeholders with the tools they need to drive action on sustainability and advance progress towards circular economy approaches on a national, regional and global scale. Attendees will learn about the UN-brokered policy recommendations, implementation guidelines, an informa-tion exchange standard and call to action, known as ‘The Sustainability Pledge’, adopted at the 27th UN/CEFACT Plenary in April 2021 and how they can be applied in a real-world context.

The event is part of the roll-out of the project Enhancing Traceability and Transparency for Sustainable and Circular Value Chains in Garment and Footwear since 2019, jointly implemented with the UN's International Trade Centre (ITC), with financial support from theEuropean Union.

EBIZ and the CROSS-TEC laboratory of ENEA Bologna will also participate in the event on 22 September at 16.00-17.30 in the person of Eng. Piero de Sabbata. as discussant at the round table of Module 7: Business requirements, data model and data exchanges for traceability and transparency of sustainable and circular value chains in the textile and leather sector. Learning objective: Technical study of the business model and data to support the traceability of the exchange of standardized electronic information on sustainability and circularity performance
